How do you define "research"?
Basically we focus on projects that use some sort of definable methodology and data, even if it's not necessarily a peer-reviewed process. This allows us to include government and nonprofit research as well as smaller, grass-roots projects. As long as the research does not misrepresent itself, and the methodology is open to scrutiny, we are willing to include it in KCResearch.

Where does the research come from?
We collect documents from hundreds of non profit groups, universities, research institutes, government entities and scholars. Some of them are well-known national organizations, and some are very small and local. We provide a number of documents on our own servers and link to others on the websites of the owning organizations.
If you would like to submit a research document to KCResearch, please use our online submission form

Do you have a recommended citation format?
You are free to use the major style of your choosing (e.g. APA, MLA, Chicago). However, we do ask that KCResearch be cited as the access point, along with the stable URL provided for each record (in the upper left hand corner). An example citation would be:
Smith, D., et al. (2007) "Changes in Frontline Family Workers: Results From the Missouri Family Development Credential Program Evaluation." University of Missouri-Kansas City, Family studies Program. Retrieved via KCResearch at http://www.kcresearch.org/u?/coll,10910
location of stable URL in the item view
May I link to documents in KCResearch on my website?
Absolutely. We recommend linking to the stable URL located in the upper left hand corner of each item record. This URL is short, will not change, and is perfect for references or hyperlinks.
If you want to download and host the document itself rather than linking to us, you should contact the rights holder for permission. This contact information is included in each record. Items in KCResearch are intended for personal, academic, and/or noncommerical purposes.

Is this site really free for me to use?
Yes it is. We are funded by a grant from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and do not accept fees of any kind for accessing or submitting research to the site. The project is managed by the Kansas City Public Library, so we receive some degree of support from tax revenues as well.
